Wedding photography at the Gosforth Marriott Hotel

Katie & John

Marriott Hotel - Gosforth

Katie and John found us through a friend that we had done newborn photos for. We met up with them shortly after they booked their wedding. They chose us for their wedding photography at Gosforth Marriott Hotel in Newcastle Upon Tyne. We kept in touch over the 2 years on the run up to their wedding (its never to early to secure your date!) and in the couple of months before the wedding they also booked a pre wedding shoot at Jesmond Dene which helped put them at ease ready for their couple’s photos on the day!

Getting Ready
Katie had stayed at the Marriott Hotel the night before with her family and bridesmaids. When we arrived everyone was getting ready in their huge room and they were all in a great mood dressed in their SpongeBob pyjamas!

There were plenty of drinks flowing and with the Scottish family roots Irn Bru with vodka was the choice for most! This theme followed throughout the day too!

Hair and makeup was expertly done and everyone looked amazing! The bridesmaids dressed in some stunning coloured dresses, the children were very excited and all ready and then good friend Cathy helped Katie get dressed.
With a spray of perfume, her jewellery, and some customised sparkly converse shoes the bride was ready!

While the girls were getting ready Nick popped down to take a few shots of the Groom with his Best man- they look super cool! Then it was time to head to the room for the ceremony!

The Ceremony
Katie’s dad was to walk her down the aisle and her bridesmaids and flower girls went first. They all looked lovely though the girls were a little nervous!

The bride and groom made their wedding vows to each other and exchanged wedding rings. John was announced to kiss the bride then the usual signing the register was done and they left the room newly married as husband and wife looking very happy as they walked back up the aisle!

The Couple’s Photographs
After a drinks reception we went out to the grass at the front of the hotel for the big group photo and some family formal photos. We try to keep these brief so guests don’t get bored!
These photographs were particularly special, John’s father was very unwell and they didn’t think he was going to manage to be at the wedding. Being a determined man he was there and clearly enjoying himself and had lots of family photos taken. As we understood he would be tired we made sure to get all photos with him in there done first to let him rest. We are happy to work with any situation and help out making things easier where possible, do just let us know.

The weather was great so the guests went back in to the hotel to hit the bar while we took the newlyweds around the grounds for some romantic photographs together.
We had great fun taking Katie & John’s photos. They enjoyed themselves and there was lots of laughter and you can tell they are very happy. As we walked round we spotted Katie’s dads old bus and had to stop for a shot with that! It’s certainly different to the usual wedding cars we see!

The Speeches
We headed into reception room ready for the speeches and the meal as everyone was starving!

The speeches were enjoyed by everyone- Katie’s dad went first, followed by the Groom and they all had some lovely words to say. The best man was last and gave a great speech with props to add to the effect telling of johns stag!

We then took a break to let everyone enjoy their gorgeous meal, and we got to work on a selection of the images from the day so far so they could be ready to go up on our projector for the evening reception guests to see!

We love our projector service, it’s a wonderful way to include evening guests in everything that happened during the day time and a great talking point for guests too, as well as giving the Bride and Groom a sneaky peak at what’s to come!

Party time!
After the meal the guests made their way back into the hotel with many taking advantage of the good weather and sitting outside in the sunshine while the room was turned around ready for the evening. It was a fabulous transformation with a black & white LED twinkly dance floor and back drop, we had the projector set up and ready to go and there was coloured mood lighting around the room, Kathie from Balloon Bedlam had made balloon centrepieces to go throughout the room and it all came together to make a fab display in the room!

The DJ was set up and ready for the party to begin! The kids had a great time running around and dancing DJ got people up on the dance floor to strut their stuff, the drinks were flowing and spirits high.

Mr and Mrs Sanderson hit the dance floor for their first dance as a married couple. We set off one of our fun confetti cannons (please let us know if you want us to supply one of these for your first dance! They make amazing first dance pictures!) to add some extra WOW factor to the photos.

Then the party got into full swing! Two of the bridesmaids really wanted to let their hair down and dance so they changed back into the SpongeBob pyjamas much to Katie’s entertainment! There was lots of dancing, there was lots of laughter when people sat on the dance floor for cha cha slide and then with the bride at the front of the line for a bit of Tina Turner and it was still going strong when we left, and there was a queue for the fabulous photo booth provided by Julie at Crazy-Pix with everyone wanting silly pictures- we even had a go ourselves!

Overall it was a brilliant fun day for everyone and we really enjoyed ourselves. We hope Katie & John love their photos and that the rest of the family enjoy them too. We hope they like them as much as we do!

Sadly Johns Dad George passed away only a couple of days after the wedding. We are so glad we managed to capture those special moments and memories for the family with him involved.

Thanks to Mr and Mrs Sanderson for choosing us to photograph their day and allow us to capture their memories to keep and look back at over years to come.
We wish you all the best for the future together!
