Wedding day photography at The Grand Hotel, Tynemouth

Gemma & Sebastian 24th july

The Grand Hotel, Tynemouth

Gemma and Sebastian’s wedding was held at The Grand Hotel in beautiful Tynemouth right opposite Tynemouth beach. We were thrilled they asked us to be their Wedding photographers for the day, we had previously taken photos of their daughter Frankie and would be moving away from Newcastle soon after the wedding, so it is great for us to be able to provide them with beautiful memories from a real beauty spot of Northumberland. The whole wedding day was at the one amazing venue. For anyone not familiar with The Grand hotel it’s a stunning old building full of original features and character overlooking the beautiful Tynemouth longsands beach. Gemma and Sebastian met doing Gilbert and Sullivan amateur dramatics and the wedding has a theatrical musical theme running throughout. They chose a perfect venue for getting some amazing wedding photographs, its a photographers dream!

Gemma was getting ready at the hotel and had her mum with her, everyone was very calm and stress free in the preparations which was lovely. The bride had her hair pinned up by a hair dresser in a pretty updo and expertly applied her own make up. We had time to get plenty detail shots of her lovely wedding things, including her grandmas ring she was wearing too.

The couples little girl Frankie was having a nap next door with grandma so she was all refreshed for the day ahead of her to do her big job of being flower girl. Sebastian’s mum has a lot of experience in the wedding industry and had handmade and customised many things for the wedding. Gemma’s tiara and belt were made by her and little Frankie’s dress had been customised too.

Gemma looked amazing dressed in a beautiful flowing dress with a jewelled belt and sequin sandals then the look was completed with a cathedral veil.

Meanwhile upstairs in the hotel Sebastian was getting ready with his best man. The groomsman outfits were fabulous. Seb had chosen frock coats with stylish waistcoats and starched detachable collars. He added a pocket watch which was a thoughtful gift for the groom from the bride, then sat to write the last few touches to his speech. After making sure himself and the best man were ship shape and smart they headed downstairs to greet the guests and await the bride to arrive for the ceremony!

Gemma and her dad came down the stunning spiral staircase and her dad walked her into the room and down the aisle. The room the ceremony was held in overlooks the sea so there are some fab views. The couple had a short reading and vows, exchanged rings and Seb was able to kiss his new wife. After signing the register and letting Frankie have a play with the pen, everyone went out to the terrace for a drinks reception and canapés. The weather was hot so everyone welcomed a cool sea breeze.  We had some family shots outside on the terrace and a big group shot on the stairs.

We spent a bit of time with Seb and his best man getting some shots of them on the terrace in their top hats, as you can see they enjoyed a bit of posing! It’s great when the guys want to get involved in the photos as much as the brides do.

Everyone then went into the reception room for their meal.  There was a speech with each course which made it more interesting for the guests too. Gemma’s dad isn’t keen on public speaking so the bride did the first speech. This was followed by a lovely speech from the Groom, then an entertaining speech from the best man over tales of him and Seb in their younger days and the mischief they got up to much to Seb’s embarrassment! The Grand Hotel have a tradition with wedding desserts- the couples dessert is covered with an edible basket, the bride and groom use a spoon to break each other’s basket.

Once the meal was finished we headed to the beach for some stunning couples photos. The top hat came along for the journey and we had a walk around the old pool, then onto the beach for some shots on the sand. They make an amazing couple together and our parasol matched Seb’s hat to get some perfect vintage images. They were happy to listen to any suggestions we gave them, throwing some dance moves out, running and having a lot of fun. The images that we got from their couples session show how much fun they had and are the perfect picture of blissful happiness.

When we went back to the hotel from the beach it was time for the evening reception to start. There was the traditional cutting of the cake, which was also made by Seb’s mum and had the theatrical music theme continued with sheet music  and theatre programmes in edible printed icing around it. The first dance followed, they had an energetic dance and looked like they were having a whale of a time before other couples joined them on the dance floor.

The rest of the night was spent partying the night away!

The couple have moved to Scotland right after the wedding so we wish them all the best for the future in their new home, congratulations to you all!
