The Caledonian hotel - Newcastle wedding photography

Christina & Matt - 9th October 2014

The Caledonian hotel, Jesmond

Christina & Matthew held their whole day at The Caledonian Hotel in Jesmond. We were delighted they asked us to be their wedding photographers for the day, and we loved their romantic wedding story.

Matt had booked and arranged the wedding for their anniversary date BUT he did this before he had even asked Christina to marry him! Thankfully she said yes!

Getting Ready
Christina got ready at the hotel in one of their gorgeous big suites so there was plenty room for her and her girls. She had bridesmaids and her mum with her and the room was a hive of activity when we arrived with them having hair and makeup done.

With her makeup applied and her hair perfectly curled Christina was ready to get into her gorgeous ivory gown.

The Ceremony
Matt was already in the ceremony room waiting for his bride to arrive. The bridesmaids went down the aisle first, and then it was time for the Bride.

Christina’s dad walked her down the aisle looking very proud. He took his seat and the ceremony began. The couple made their vows to each other, they exchanged wedding rings and Matt got to kiss his beautiful bride. After the formalities of the register being completed everyone headed out from the ceremony for a drinks reception and to congratulate the newlyweds.

The weather was quite hit and miss so we had some formal photographs on the staircase inside, then the weather gave us a break and stopped raining!

The Couples Photographs
With a gap in the rain we jumped in the car (thanks to the bride’s uncle offering to drive them!) and went down the road to Jesmond Dene. This is one of our favourite spots in the area for photos as it’s literally 5 minutes from the hotel which is perfect.

We had a walk round the Dene stopping on the bridge in front of the waterfall for some gorgeous shots. We stopped at a few of our other favourite spots and headed back to the hotel.

This couple did a great job of putting up with the drizzle that kept stopping and starting! As you can see if definitely didn’t affect their photos or dampen their spirits!

The Speeches
Back at the hotel everyone was settled ready for the speeches. We heard from the best men who had lots of funny tales to tell about Matt and his escapades which had everyone laughing. Matt had a lot of lovely things to say about how happy he was and how beautiful the bride was. Christina’s dad also gave a lovely speech too.

While everyone enjoyed a fabulous meal we prepared a taster of some of the photos from the day so far as we were having our image projection set up for the night time so everyone could see what happened throughout the day and get a sneak peak!

The Evening Celebrations
During the gap after the meal before the evening reception got underway we went outside to catch a few extra fun shots with Matt and his groomsmen and the Christina with her bridesmaids. They were up for anything we threw at them including jumping and wearing shades.

We popped back into the couple’s room where they were practicing for their first dance. While we were there we took advantage of the surroundings in the room to grab a few extra quirky shots! We had a great fun with the bride and groom jumping on the bed together and lounging on the fabulous sofas. This Mr & Mrs definitely had a brilliant time having their photographs taken and really gave their all with everything we suggested- this definitely shows in the photos they have!

With evening guests arrived it was time for the first dance. With the bride being a huge Ed Sheeran fan their chosen song Thinking Out Loud was perfect for them, and their guests joined them, on the dance floor and then it was party time with everyone enjoying their evening, they were still going strong when we left!

Congratulations to a lovely couple. We wish you all the happiness in the world for the future and hope you enjoyed your day- we had a blast! Thanks for having us there!
