Wedding photography at the Malmaison Newcastle

Amy & Mark

Malmaison, Newcastle upon Tyne

Amy and Mark booked us for wedding photography at the gorgeous Mal Maison Hotel in Newcastle Upon Tyne, which is right on Newcastle Quayside in stunning surroundings. Originally they had us booked for just their evening reception as they were booked to get married in Jamaica. Sadly Amy’s nana wasn’t well enough to fly and Amy couldn’t even think about saying ‘I Do’ without Nana by her side for the day. So the wedding was brought to the Mal Maison and held earlier than scheduled.

Getting Ready
When we arrived the room was full of activity getting everyone prepared for the big day! There was a makeup artist doing a great job of making everyone look stunning, and then they went across to the hairdresser’s seat for some fabulous pin up hair styles.
Amy had all her bridesmaids with her, along with her mum, nana and her daughter Emmy.
There were plenty drinks flowing and everyone was getting very excited.
Nick popped across to the guy’s room to see Mark and his groomsmen for a few shots too, they were all in great spirits and Mark didn’t look nervous at all.

Amy moved into a different room to get her dress on so there was more space and it was cooler as it was even though it was only early April it was pretty warm. The bride was starting to have quite a few nerves kicking in, and the bridesmaids were getting emotional so there were tears all round! A good job Laura was around with a pocketful of tissues to hand round!

The bridesmaids helped Amy into her dress and fastened the back for her. With some amazing shoes added and her beautiful floor length veil attached she was ready to go. She made a stunning bride- Mark is a lucky man! We loved her bouquet of beautiful flowers too!
The nerves were really starting to get to Amy, she was very anxious to get the ceremony over with. After a sit down and a chat with Nana she was feeling a little better and it was time to head to the ceremony room.

The Ceremony
The guests were all in their seats waiting for the arrival of the bridal party, and Mark was at the front with his best man.

The room looked great and there were the big illuminated initial letters in the corner supplied by the fab Coco Luminere. The bridesmaids walked down the aisle first, and then Amy entered the room, accompanied by her Nana who was to walk her down the aisle. The couple made their wedding vows to each other and exchanged wedding rings, Amy had been so nervous about making mistakes in the vows it ended up with giggles and laughter all round! Mark got to kiss his bride and the register was signed to make everything official!
They walked back up the aisle as Mr and Mrs Anderson and were showered in confetti as the yleft the room.

Everyone headed out to the front of the hotel for the family and group photographs, with the sun shining we got the formalities over with quickly so guests could then relax and enjoy the rest of the day.

The Romantic Couple’s Photographs
After the family photos were finished we whisked the bride and groom away for a short time to grab some gorgeous couple’s shots. The location of the Mal Maison Hotel makes it perfect for your wedding photographs as its got so many landmark sights on its doorstep!
We took advantage of the surroundings and went across the millennium bridge and along the edge of the quayside with the background showing things like the Tyne Bridge, The Sage, and The Baltic. With these pictures there is definitely no mistaking where they got married!

An amazing couple looking so in love- they breezed through their photos having a lot of fun and really enjoying themselves!

The photo of Amy holding her bouquet in the air sums it all up!
We also had some more confetti throwing on the bridge and did a bit of daft posing with the groomsman and the bridesmaids for a bit of fun!

The Speeches
The room was set ready for the meal and looked amazing with the cake set up and pretty floral centrepieces. Guests came in and took their seats for the speeches to begin.
Amy’s mum gave the first speech with some lovely words and a lot of emotion- clearly proud of the couple.

The groom took his turn next and his speech got some great reactions form the bridal party, telling stories of him and Amy getting together and having the children. He then chose this speech to drop a big bombshell to Amy that he had bought a new puppy and it would be ready to be homed with them in the coming weeks. Now they had previously had chats about getting a dog and Amy didn’t want one. Amy looked slightly horrified and unsure on if it was a joke or if he was serious. He was most definitely serious and his best man confirmed he had! (NB- since the wedding Amy told us now she’d had time to come round the idea she was actually excited for the new family pet to arrive! Phew!)
Best man Lewis was next to speak. he had some hilarious stories about him and mark growing up and the antics that they got up to. He did a brilliant job and got a lot of laughter form the crowd!

After the speeches we then took a break to let everyone enjoy their meal and we got to work on a selection of the images from the day so far so they could be ready to go up on our projector for the evening reception guests to see!  We love our Image Projector service and it goes down so well with guests as it’s a wonderful way to include evening guests in what happened during the day time and a great talking point for everyone too, as well as giving the Bride and Groom a sneaky peak at what’s to come!

Party time!
After the meal the guests made their way to the bar areas to relax while the room was set up ready for the evening celebrations. There was a sweet buffet, a twinkly LED dance floor and the beautiful light up letters in the room, and our projector was up displaying the images for guests to see. It all came together beautifully.

After a quick cutting of the cake was done Mr and Mrs Anderson took to the dance floor for their first dance as husband and wife, all the guests were watching as one of our confetti cannons was set off and rained bright sprinkles of confetti over the couple and then others joined them on the dance floor. The kids were running round having lots of fun. The party really started then and everyone was having a great time partying on the dance floor. The night was in full flow when we left with and looked like it was set to continue into the early hours- good job there was a basket of flip flops out for guests to use when their heels made their feet hurt from dancing!

Overall it was a lovely day for everyone involved and we had a brilliant time capturing the whole wedding. We hope they enjoy their photos as much as we enjoyed taking them! Thanks to Amy and Mark for choosing us to photograph their special day and allowing us to capture their memories to treasure for years to come, we had a blast!

We wish you all the best for the future together as husband and wife!
