Newcastle Wedding photography - St.Gabriels church & Gosforth rugby club

Joanna and Sam - 2nd August 2014

St Gabriels Church, Heaton

When we first met Joanna and Sam they had lots of brilliant ideas for their wedding and we were excited they chose us to be their wedding photographers, we knew they were going to have an amazing day and were looking forward to photographing everything. This is how their day went
Joanna and Sam had their ceremony at a fabulous church, St Gabriels in Heaton. They then held their reception at the Northern Rugby Club in Gosforth, this was perfect for their Newcastle wedding as Sam plays for the Rubgy club the reception was held at, so personal to them!

We met Joanna and her girls at stylish hair salon Dirty Classic in High Heaton. There was an excited buzz when we arrived at the salon as Joanna and her ‘maids’ were getting their hair and make up done. The hair and make up was vintage style with the bride going for a classic Audrey Hepburn look. The stylists at the salon did a great job with everyones hair. Joanna had an independent make up artist, Laura Gemmell, come into the salon, she did a stunning job of expertly applying make up for everyone. The ladies grabbed coffee and ciabatta toast from the delicious Dean & Daniella's along the road and headed to Joanna's to get dressed.

The bridesmaids had matching pink dresses, and Joanna had an exquisite tea length dress with lace shoes and satin bows to compliment the look. The bridal party all had quirky brooch bouquets which were hand made by Sam's talented mum, and the groomsmen had fabric flower button holes. Joanna's dad was a little emotional to see his little girl enter the room as the bride.

Everyone was ready so it was off to the church in a shiny vintage car! Sam was in the church with his three best men waiting with anticipation for his bride. On arrival at the church Joanna's dad walked his only daughter down the aisle to her groom. There were hymns sung, vows read and rings exchanged and Sam got to kiss his new wife. While the newly weds signed the register there was acoustic music and singing from Joanna's brother and his band mates which was a lovely touch.

Everyone went to the gardens for some confetti sprinkles and the group and formal photos, it was a lovely sunny day and even grandad was watching via Skype on the iPad. Joanna & Sam have a lovely curly haired pet retriever called Jackson, and even he made it to the church for some photos!

We went with the wedding car to Jesmond Dene to spend time with the new Mr & Mrs Wilson for some romantic couples photos. They were up for anything and full of energy having their photos done. They even went for a daring walk across the stepping stones in the middle of the river! We get the best results from the couples photos when we take a break from the wedding party as people can relax without feeling intimidated, and this shows in the photos!

We just made it back to the reception when it started to rain (excellent timing!) Guests enjoyed drinks and then had a fabulous afternoon Tea and the speeches began, there were some emotional stories, some heartfelt tales from Joanna's dad, and some funny stories too. We got a sample of the photos from the day ready to go on our projector for the evening, and set the PropBox out for some fun evening shots.

The rain had cleared and there was a bouncy castle for both adult and children entertainment, we had some great shots of people on there having fun! There was a barbecue being fired up for the evening and later on the guests were treated to a classic Mr Whippy ice-cream from an ice-cream van! Everyone, including the bride and groom, was a fan! The evening entertainment began with a set from the band and the newly weds had their first dance together before other couples joined them on the floor.

The dancing and fun continued and everyone was up on the dance floor strutting their stuff after a few drinks! Joanna and Sam had a special personal beer brewed for the occasion which was served throughout the night and all their guests enjoyed!

When we left the party was set to continue into the early hours with the band playing some amazing tunes! Overall it was a wonderful day for everyone and we had fabulous time too. This couple have an amazing set of photos to come from the day! We hope they like them as much as we do!

Thanks Joanna and Sam for choosing us to photograph your fun filled quirky wedding day and capture those lovely memories. We wish you all the best for the future!
